Chief Sauceda and the Brownsville Police Department are proud to recognize and commend Officers Sarahi Benavides, Victor Espitia, and Kazzandra Guerrero for their compassionate actions during a recent welfare check that resulted in the rescue and care of two young children.
On April 3, 2025, our officers responded to a call involving two children who had been left abandoned inside a residence. While on scene, Officer Guerrero noticed one of the children eating Jello snacks with unusual urgency. After speaking with the children, she learned they had not had a meal almost all day. Officer Guerrero notified Officer Benavides, who quickly and selflessly purchased a warm meal and delivered it to the children. At the same time, Officer Espitia promptly located and placed the children’s mother under arrest.
On June 3, 2025, the City of Brownsville issued an official proclamation honoring these three officers for their extraordinary service. Their recognition highlights their dedication to protecting the most vulnerable members of our community and going above and beyond by serving from the heart.
Congratulations
