PATROL

Patrol Officers provide quality customer service to the community and internal department members as well as provide emergency aid, security and protection to the citizens of Brownsville by patrolling business and residential areas, responding to requests for information and assistance, investigating criminal activity, execute data-driven initiatives, engaging in short and long-term solution-oriented activities which enhance the safety and well-being of residents and otherwise ensuring the proper enforcement of laws and regulations.

Traffic Enforcement

The Motorcycle Officer is a highly skilled law enforcement professional responsible for conducting patrols, traffic enforcement, and community policing activities using a motorcycle. This role requires advanced riding skills, extensive knowledge of traffic laws, and the ability to effectively enforce laws and ensure public safety while on a motorcycle or patrol unit. Motorcycle Officers play a crucial role in enhancing traffic safety, providing rapid response, and engaging with the community.

All-Terrain Vehicle Unit (ATV)

Utilizing the mobility and versatility of the ATV, the officer will patrol areas that are difficult to reach by traditional vehicles, such as parks, trails, beaches, and other public spaces, ensuring a strong presence in these areas. The officer engages with community members, offers assistance, provides information, and addresses concerns in real-time. This role emphasizes approachability, with the officer expected to participate in community events, collaborate with local organizations, and serve as a liaison between the police department and the community.

Canine Unit

The Canine Unit utilizes specially trained canine teams in support of law enforcement operations. The primary objective of the Canine Unit is to enhance public safety and support various law enforcement functions through the use of highly trained police dogs and their handlers.

Tactical Team

The Tactical Team specializes in handling high-risk operations and critical incidents that exceed the capabilities of standard law enforcement units. The primary objective of the team is to safely and effectively resolve situations involving significant threats to public safety, including armed standoffs, hostage situations, and high-risk arrests.

Mental Health Unit

The Mental Health Unit Officer (MHO) is responsible for providing specialized support and assistance to individuals with mental health concerns. This role involves working collaboratively with law enforcement agencies, mental health professionals, and community resources to ensure the safety, well-being, and appropriate care of individuals experiencing mental health crises. The Mental Health Officer plays a vital role in promoting mental health awareness, de-escalating crises, facilitating access to resources, and advocating for individuals with mental health needs.

Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit (EOD)

The Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit specializes in the safe handling, disarming, and disposal of explosive devices and hazardous materials. The primary objective of the EOD Unit is to ensure public safety by effectively managing incidents involving explosives and other dangerous ordnance, while minimizing risk to individuals and property.

Drone Unit (UAS)

The primary objective of the Drone Unit is to enhance operational capabilities through aerial surveillance, data collection, and situational awareness, while ensuring the safe and effective use of drone technology in accordance with legal and departmental standards.
