On April 2nd, 2025, the Brownsville Police Department gathered to honor the life and legacy of Chief Andres (Andy) Vega Jr., a remarkable leader and dedicated public servant who left an unforgettable mark on our community. Chief Vega was appointed as Brownsville Chief of Police in December 1972, and through his vision and commitment, he helped shape the future of law enforcement in our city. His leadership played a pivotal role in the development of our current police station, a lasting testament to his efforts in strengthening our department. As we reflect on his legacy, we are reminded of the values he stood for and the commitment to the people of Brownsville. Though he is no longer with us, his impact will forever be felt in the department he helped build and the city he served so faithfully.
May his memory continue to inspire us all
Rest in peace, Chief Vega.
